Birthdays at the Casa

May and June are busy months of celebration here at Casa de Esperanza.  Osmi's birthday is May 23, and Fidel's is June 16.  This year they both turned the "Big 0," with Osmi turning 20 and Fidel, 30.  So the celebrations have been a little extra special.

Osmi's parents made the 11 hour trip from Playa Grande to Antigua
to celebrate with him

They brought him a baby parrot, who is now known as Charlie.
Osmi is doing a great job caring for him.

Juan Carlos and Osmi's mom are preparing "Churasco" or grilled steak.
This is the traditional birthday dinner at our house.

Of course there was cake!

This was poor Osmi, after Dick helped him "taste" the frosting off his cake.
(See below how much nicer I was to Fidel!)

Dick and some of his boys came over to help celebrate.

Now for Fidel.  He chose only to have our in house family for dinner (Dick is in Belize).

Tony cooked the churasco this time.

I think the boys liked it!

Of course, we had cake again.

I gently helped Fidel "taste" the frosting.

I think a good time was had by all!

For his present, Fidel wanted to take a "road trip."  So next week, Dick will borrow a van from Hope Haven and we will set off for lunch in Tecpan, about an hour and a half from here.
There is a great steak house there that he guys want to try.
(Do you see a theme developing here?)
